Ancient Scalea, so beautiful! Very relaxing , with its restaurants at the bottom of the town, very silent even in August… the new part of the city is a little more chaotic and happy, with its many restaurants and beaches, some of those are very well organized, while other are still “unknown”. I’m waiting for you…
A bit of history…
Scalea is one of the most ancient towns in the high Tyrrhenum, 109 Kms far from Cosenza, 25 kms far from the Tyrrhenian coast, beside the outlet of the river Lao, and it has about 9000 inhabitants.
Scalea was discovered for being a beautiful resort for vacations by the Romans around the second century B.C.. This was documented by the many ruins of the Roman houses of the imperial period scattered around the lowland and the first hills. Romans built their houses in the most panoramic places.
Like every italian small town, also Scalea has got its own dialect. A dialect closer to the Campanian dialect than the Calabrian one. The cultural and commercial contact have been more frequent with the coastal towns of Campania than contacts with inner Calabrian towns.

Come Raggiungerci / How to reach us
* By car:
Coming from Naples leave the highway A3 Salerno – Reggio Calabria at the exit “Lagonegro Nord” and go along the highway “Fondo Valle Del Noce” up to the junction with the S.S. 18 which goes straight to Scalea.
Coming from the South it’s necessary to exit from the A3 exit “Falerna” and follow the highway “superstrada Tirrenica” up to the S.S.18.
